Canada Legal Center (the "Site") is operated by 1971308 Alberta Corp., Alberta, Canada ("we," "us," "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information in connection with the Site, our newsletter, our digital products, and any related services, features, or communications (collectively, the "Services").

By using the Services or providing us with personal information, you consent to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services or provide us your information.

We handle personal information in accordance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA"), Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act ("PIPA"), and other applicable provincial privacy legislation, including Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector where it applies. Our collection, use, and disclosure of personal information is limited to purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.

2. Personal information we collect

"Personal information" means information about an identifiable individual. Depending on how you interact with the Services, we may collect:

Contact and identity information — name, email address, telephone number, mailing address, and similar identifiers you provide when subscribing, registering, purchasing, or contacting us.
Subscription and preference information — newsletter subscription status, communication preferences, and engagement data (such as opens and clicks).
Purchase and transaction information — billing name, email address, billing address, products purchased, order history, and transaction details when you buy a template, guidance note, or other product from us. Payment card details are collected and processed directly by our payment processor; we do not store your full card number.
Inquiry and matter information — the content of any question, request, comment, correction, or other communication you send us, including details about your legal matter, business, or circumstances that you choose to include.
Referral and intake information — information you provide through any form, questionnaire, or request to be connected with a lawyer, law firm, or other professional or service provider, which may include details about your legal issue, location, timeline, and budget.
Technical and usage information — IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages visited, referring URLs, access times, and similar data collected automatically through server logs, analytics tools, cookies, and similar technologies.
Marketing and interaction data — your interactions with our emails, content, products, advertisements, and social media.
Any other information you choose to provide, in any form, now or through features we may offer in the future (including accounts, surveys, contests, or paid services).

3. Purposes for which we collect, use, and disclose personal information

We collect, use, and disclose personal information for the following purposes, and for any other purpose identified at or before the time of collection or otherwise permitted or required by law:

Operating the Services — to provide, maintain, secure, administer, and improve the Site and Services, and to develop new features, content, products, and services.
Communications you request — to respond to inquiries, corrections, and requests, and to deliver the newsletter and any other content or updates you sign up for.
Order fulfillment — to process and complete your purchases, deliver digital products, issue receipts and invoices, handle refunds and customer service requests, and maintain transaction records as required for tax, accounting, and audit purposes.
Fraud and transaction security — to detect, prevent, and investigate fraudulent or unauthorized transactions.
Referral services — to identify, evaluate, and connect you with third-party lawyers, law firms, and other professionals or service providers ("Referral Partners") who may be relevant to you, and to share your contact information and the details you provide (including details about your legal matter) with those Referral Partners so they can assess your needs and contact you directly about their services.
Marketing and promotions — to send you marketing, promotional, and informational communications from us and from our Referral Partners and other third parties, by email or other channels, subject to applicable anti-spam law and your communication preferences.
Personalization — to tailor content, communications, product recommendations, and offerings to your interests, jurisdiction, purchase history, and circumstances.
Analytics and research — to measure and analyze usage, engagement, sales, and trends; to evaluate the performance of content, products, and campaigns; and to conduct research and business analysis.
Aggregated and de-identified data — to create aggregated or de-identified information that no longer identifies you, which we may use and disclose for any lawful purpose without restriction.
Business operations — to manage our ordinary business operations, including administration, record-keeping, auditing, billing, and vendor management.
Business transactions — to evaluate or carry out a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale or transfer of all or part of our business or assets, in which personal information may be shared with and transferred to the parties involved, subject to appropriate protections.
Legal and protective purposes — to comply with legal and regulatory obligations; to respond to lawful requests from courts, regulators, and authorities; to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; to enforce our terms and policies; and to protect the rights, property, and safety of us, our users, and others.
Other purposes — for any other purpose consistent with the foregoing, reasonably related to the operation and growth of our business as it evolves, or for which we obtain your consent.

4. How we disclose personal information

We do not disclose personal information except as described in this Policy or with your consent. We may disclose personal information to:

Referral Partners, as described in Section 3, who will use your information under their own privacy policies and practices;
Service providers that perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting, content delivery, email delivery and newsletter management, payment processing, order fulfillment, analytics, customer relationship management, and IT services;
Affiliates and professional advisors, including lawyers, accountants, and auditors;
Parties to a business transaction, as described in Section 3;
Government, regulatory, and law enforcement bodies, where required or permitted by law; and
Any other third party with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.

5. Consent and your choices

By subscribing to our newsletter, submitting a form, making a purchase, or otherwise providing personal information, you consent to its collection, use, and disclosure for the purposes described in this Policy. Where required by law (including for commercial electronic messages under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation), we will seek your express consent.

You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions, by contacting us or using the unsubscribe mechanism in any email. Withdrawing consent may limit the Services we can provide to you. Unsubscribing from our newsletter does not remove information already shared with a Referral Partner at your request or with your consent; you must contact the Referral Partner directly regarding their use of your information.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We and our service providers may use cookies, pixels, log files, and similar technologies to operate the Site, process transactions, remember preferences, and analyze usage. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but some features of the Site may not function properly as a result.

7. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including while you remain subscribed, while we maintain a relationship with you or with Referral Partners to whom your information was disclosed, and as required to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. Transaction and billing records are retained for the period required by applicable tax and accounting laws, even if you unsubscribe or withdraw consent to marketing.

8. Safeguards

We use physical, organizational, and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Storage outside Canada

Our service providers may process and store personal information outside Canada, including in the United States. While outside Canada, personal information is subject to the laws of those jurisdictions and may be accessible to foreign courts, regulators, and security authorities.

10. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, or deletion of your personal information, by contacting our Privacy Officer (below). Quebec residents have additional rights under Quebec law, including rights to data portability and to information about automated processing, where applicable.

11. Children

The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Third-party sites and services

The Site may link to third-party websites, including statutes, government resources, and Referral Partner sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties, and this Policy does not apply to them.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, communicated by email or other notice. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
